PFUJ evolved strategy for Capacity training for media person

The Federal Executive council of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has evolved a comprehensive strategy for the training, capacity building of the journalists, in consonance with the present day requirement.
This decision has been taken in the meeting of the FEC of the PFUJ, here on Saturday, under the chairmanship of the PFUJ president Mr. Pervez Shaokat.
The meeting noted that there is dire need to upgrade the status and the capacity of the journalists and for achieving this task, the PFUJ would formulate a plan. According to this plan, the PFUJ, with the collaboration of various repute agencies of international level, acquired the services of the “trainers” for further training of the Pakistani Journalists, in the field of health, education, economy, reporting for conflict areas, new techniques of subbing, civic journalism, online reporting, beside this, journalists would also be impart training to use the new tools of the reporting in the electronic media, as per present day requirement.
The meeting also noted that the stick adherence of the code of ethics in the field of reporting, coverage on electronic media and enhancement the skills of the journalists to be more tolerant and change in their attitude, not to react against the provocation of various pressure groups.
The meeting also emphasized the journalists that they should concentrate on the basic ethics of reporting and inform the people by utilizing their mental faculties with positive approach.
The meeting noted with concern that the lawyers, which were always natural allies of the journalist community, have lost their temper without any provocation and created embarrassment for the lovers of the democracy, rule of law, freedom of the press.
The meeting was of the view that the seasoned and senior lawyers of the legal fraternity should come forward and conduct a thorough study, why some hand picked lawyers become unruly and opted aggressive attitude and taken law into their hands for compelling the media persons and other segments of the society to act according to their expressions.
The meeting also decided that the PFUJ will not allow the government and APNS to unilaterally impose code of ethics with the collaboration of Pakistan Media Broadcasting Association.
The meeting made it clear that the PBA and APNS comprising of one group, while the journalists are also one of the most important component of the stakeholders. Without taking into confidence to the PFUJ and the representation for formulation of any code of ethics for the electronic media would not be acceptable to the public, as well as to the civil society, the meeting warned.
The meeting also decided that the government should introduce gender policy for the electronic media by ensuring conducive environment and protection of the female journalists. Almost all the developed countries had already adopted a gender policy in the electronic media, which is being implemented in letter and spirit and such policies were formally enacted by the parliament.
The meeting also decided to accelerate the struggle for achieving the economic rights of the media persons including implementation of the seventh wage board award and constitution of eighth wage board award.
